Dean Bowen is an Australian artist based in Melbourne, his work is often quirky, and it is certainly infectious. For over 20 years he has developed a unique and humorous symbolic language for the simple pleasures of human habitation within the artificial and the natural world. In his latest exhibition “Aviary” Dean creates an extraordinary collection of painting, sculpture and lithography which is inspired by enjoyed childhood memories and glimpses of the past, everyday life and the birds that currently land on his studio’s tin roof. Bowen is renowned for his vibrant, deliberately child-like renderings of animals, his depiction of suburban Australia and its characters, most especially his highly charismatic painted Birds. He celebrates the aesthetics of life, soaring above suburbia, creating imagery that symbolizes the noises of the urbanized world.
